Hey’all (ooh, look! It’s one word now!)
I did my promo today. Took me 3 hours because I had to tinker with the CD players and figure out that they were actually NOT running into anything that would capture the audio. They used to do that…wonder why not anymore…hmm…things in our studio are forever mysterious like that.
Anyway, yeah…I had to rip all the tracks to our Windows Media library (annoying!), and then record them into stoopid, outdated Vegas…and our soundboard is still only recording in mono, so I had to put pan envelopes on all the audio tracks so that when I was finished, sounds would come out of BOTH speakers instead of just ONE speaker. Why is our board still broken and only making sounds come out of the left side? I don’t know. Gremlins come in while everyone is away or sleeping or whatever, and they BREAK THINGS!!! Things that, alas and alackaday, we do not have the moneys to fix. It breaks my little stony heart, it does…
But at least my promo is done. Mostly. I brought it home (ugh! I rendered it as an mp3! Why did I not do it as a .wav file??? >.<) and listened to it, and my vocal is crazy loud at the beginning, so I have to go back Thursday and make me quieter…and probably make the Marilyn Manson and Evanescence tracks a little louder, I guess.
My British voice sounds funky. Esp. with the effect on it that makes me sound like a spaceman or something. And if you ever would think that my other “voices” don’t have different patterns of word choice, they totally do. I found that out today…see, I hadn’t written myself a script because all I really needed to do was tell the time and name of my show, but I did a little bit of description, too, and this is what my Brit. voice decided to say in part of it:
“WXCU Darkside airs Thursday nights, seven to eleven PM, with music that will give you the shivers…!”
Shivers? Wha…? I would never say that. But my Brit. voice does, apparently. You don’t know how surprised I was when it just popped out…but at least you can’t tell in the recording. I will probably have some people listen to it a bit so that they can tell me I don’t sound ridiculous (just between you and I, I think I do sound stupid), and I’ll fix my vocal level, and then ta-da! I’ll add it to the promo library so that people will know to listen to meeeeee!
I still need to get all the other specialty DJs in to do their own promos, so that kind of stinks because I’ll have to hound them until they do it…bah. And then the ones who have never done any production work, I’ll have to go in with them and teach them what to do, etc…
Ah well, if we can all get them done, it’ll be one miraculous step forward for the specialty shows. Yay and yayness, right?

Sam B: (singing) I kissed a girl and I liked it—the taste of her cherry chapstick! I kissed a girl just to try it. Hope my boyfriend don’t mind it—
Justin B: *comes out of his room and gives Sam a weird look*
Sam: (embarrassed) Uh, morning! I was just kidding…
Justin: It’s okay. I thought I heard angels singing.
